Review of Dell S3225QC - 32-inch 4K QD-OLED Monitor: Impressive Gaming Bargain
The Dell S3225QC monitor has been making waves in the world of technology, particularly for its exceptional color accuracy and gamma performance.
Out of the box, the S3225QC's gamma is ruler perfect, with a minuscule deviation from the 2.2 reference. This consistency is a testament to the monitor's precision, ensuring that the brightness levels of images and videos are reproduced faithfully. However, it's worth noting that there are no presets available for changing the gamma from 2.2.
Choosing the sRGB option from the gamut options in the monitor's Creator mode results in a slightly warm grayscale and gamma that rides just above 2.2. This choice, while not affecting the gamma's perfection, does result in a slightly warmer tone.
The S3225QC's color gamut, as shown in the first two charts, is large and slightly oversaturated in red and magenta. Despite this, the monitor offers accurate P3 and sRGB gamuts in its Creator mode. The slight oversaturation tracks linearly, preventing visible problems.
The S3225QC's color accuracy and gamut performance are tested using Portrait Displays' Calman software. After calibration, the color gamut error is reduced to an excellent 1.21dE. In the Custom Color mode after calibration, the grayscale errors are below 0.5dE, and the gamma remains perfect.
The S3225QC's grayscale and gamma performance is excellent, both out of the box and after calibration. The monitor's average grayscale error is a low 0.46dE, the lowest in the grayscale comparison after calibration.
The S3225QC covers 105.59% of DCI-P3 in the volume test, a figure typical for Quantum Dot OLEDs. This wide coverage ensures vivid and accurate colours in a variety of media.
In the Standard picture mode, the S3225QC shows minor red errors in grayscale at 90 and 100% brightness. However, these errors are minor and do not significantly affect the overall performance of the monitor.
Overall, the Dell S3225QC offers multiple picture modes, making it a versatile choice for various applications. Its color accuracy and gamut performance, combined with its perfect gamma, make it a standout option in the market, particularly for those seeking a high-quality monitor for colour-critical work.
