Revised Subscription Strategy for Publishers Based on Uncertainty Plant Design

Perplexity, the tech company behind the AI browser Comet, has announced the launch of a new subscription service called Comet Plus. The service, priced at $5 per month, offers direct access to premium content from a group of trusted publishers and journalists.

Comet Plus is set to revolutionise the way users consume content online. According to reports, users are tired of low-quality clickbait, annoying experiences, and endless blue links leading to human nonsense and no answers. The web's current model of clicks and page views has reportedly led publishers to lose reader trust and undermine their brands.

Perplexity aims to address these issues with Comet Plus. Subscribers will receive direct answers based on the highest quality content on the internet. They can also task their AI assistants with activities on the publishers' websites. Notable partners already collaborating with Perplexity include TIME, Der Spiegel, Fortune, and RTL Deutschland, although the publishing partners for the Comet Plus subscription will only be named once the Comet browser is generally available.

In addition to providing access to premium content, Comet Plus also aims to support publishers. Perplexity plans to retain 20% of the revenue from Comet Plus and distribute 80% to the publishers. This move is intended to help publishers regain trust and rebuild their brands.

The launch of Comet Plus comes shortly after Perplexity made an offer of $34.5 billion to Alphabet, Google's parent company, to acquire its Chrome browser on August 12. The budget for Comet Plus, as reported by Bloomberg, is $42.5 million.

Perplexity believes that the Comet browser is the best way to ensure the web continues to improve for everyone. It is also included in Perplexity's Pro and Max plans, offering an attractive option for those already subscribed. Comet Plus is available for $5 per month as a standalone subscription, providing an accessible way for users to access quality content and support trusted publishers.
