Rising NBA prospect Mohamed Bamba hails from Harlem, where he experienced a rapid growth in his youth.
In the heart of New York City, a 7-foot tall basketball prodigy named Mohamed Bamba was raised, his record-breaking 7-10 wingspan towering over the bustling streets of Harlem. Despite his travels, Bamba still identifies as a Harlem kid at heart.
Growing up, Bamba was not a die-hard Knicks fan but was affected by the team's on-court struggles during his youth. The arrival of Amar'e Stoudemire in 2010 was "big for the city," according to Bamba. However, it seems unlikely that Bamba will play for the Knicks next season, as his potential NBA teams are the Dallas Mavericks (No. 5) and Orlando Magic (No. 6), putting him out of reach of the Knicks, who hold the ninth selection.
Bamba's journey began when he left his neighborhood after elementary school. He attended Westtown School in Pennsylvania, where he became a McDonald's All-American in 2017. Before college, he attended a school near Harlem called Cardigan Road School. Bamba continued his basketball career at Texas, where he averaged 12.9 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 3.7 blocks in his one NCAA season.
Bamba's parents were surprisingly okay with him leaving home at a young age. Despite the challenges he faced growing up, Bamba had to make decisions at a young age. He discovered that boarding schools outside the city were where he wanted to be. For two weeks, Bamba lived in upstate New York through The Fresh Air Fund.
Bamba did not work out for any team during the pre-draft process, but he has been projected by many major media outlets to be selected between pick Nos. 5 and 7 in the 2018 NBA Draft. With the NBA draft just around the corner, fans eagerly await to see where Bamba's talents will take him.

Despite the uncertainty of his NBA destination, Bamba remains hopeful about his future. "Playing back home would be pretty cool," he stated. Regardless of where he ends up, Bamba will undoubtedly continue to represent his roots, always a Harlem kid at heart.
