Roadside Vegetation Fire in FW Bocholt: Firefighters Successfully Halted Spread
On a sunny afternoon on May 9, 2025, the Bocholt Fire Department was called to action. A vegetation fire had broken out on the bike path between Industriestraße and Uhlandstraße, with the flames spreading along both sides of the path.
The fire was located parallel to the Pleystrang, a tributary of the Bocholter Aa, and the burning bush was approximately 20 meters long, five meters deep, and up to two meters steep. Access to the fire site was challenging due to the steepness of the bush.
Ten emergency services were mobilised to tackle the blaze, with two hoses used simultaneously to quickly bring the flames under control and prevent further spread. The operation to control the vegetation fire was completed in approximately 30 minutes.
To improve accessibility and prevent the fire from spreading to parked vehicles, a construction fence in the parking area of a car dealership and a wire mesh fence had to be opened.
Matthias Hanne, the contact person for inquiries at the Bocholt Fire Department, provided updates on the situation. His telephone number is 02871 2103-0, and his email address is [email protected]. The Bocholt Fire Department's website is www.bocholt.de/feuerwehr.
Despite the challenges presented by the steep terrain, the Bocholt Fire Department's quick response and efficient teamwork ensured that the vegetation fire was swiftly contained, minimising the impact on the local environment and community.
The specific phone number to reach the fire chief, Dirk Arping, was not provided in the available information. For further inquiries, please contact Matthias Hanne.
