Roadway shut down for repairs, resulting in significant traffic congestion for motorists
The M27 motorway in Portsmouth is currently experiencing significant disruptions due to ongoing bridge repairs at junction 12. The repairs, which began after inspectors for National Highways identified concrete coming off the 50-year-old bridge, have resulted in the closure of the westbound M27 interchange at Portsbridge roundabout since Friday evening.
The westbound M27 will have overnight closures from September 26 at 9pm until September 29 at 6am, and again from September 29 to October 3 for these essential repairs. Another closure is scheduled for October 17 at 9pm until October 20 at 6am, followed by a third closure from November 3 to November 7. The eastbound M27 will also be closed for bridge repairs on three occasions: from September 26 to September 29, October 10 to October 13, and October 17 to October 20.
Drivers are advised to expect major delays on the A27 westbound after Bedhampton and on Eastern Road, where only one lane is open southbound due to a burst sewer pipe. National Highways encourages motorists to plan their journeys accordingly and to check their website for the latest traffic updates and alternative routes.
Work is due to finish in November, bringing an end to these disruptions. The westbound M27 interchange is set to reopen on Monday at 6am, providing much-needed relief to commuters and travellers in the Portsmouth area.
It is currently unclear who is responsible for the bridge repairs on the M27. For more information about the project, including updates on the progress of the repairs and traffic management plans, visit the National Highways website.
