Steven Tyler, the frontman of Aerosmith, made a significant return to the big stage on Sunday at the MTV Video Music Awards 2025 at the UBS Arena in New York. This marked his first major performance at an awards show since Aerosmith announced the end of their touring career in August 2024.

The performance was a moving tribute to the late Ozzy Osbourne, the Black Sabbath singer who passed away just over two weeks after his final concert in Birmingham in July. Aerosmith announced that they will end their final tour after Tyler's stage appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards.

Tyler was joined by fellow Aerosmith members Joe Perry on guitar and Nuno Bettencourt, as well as British singer Yungblud. The performance began with Yungblud performing hits "Crazy Train" and "Changes" before Tyler and Yungblud joined for an emotional duet of "Mama, I'm Coming Home."

The tribute was introduced by Jack Osbourne and his family, who read out an emotional statement from Aerosmith. The statement read, "We are heartbroken over the loss of our rock brother, Ozzy Osbourne. A voice that forever changed music." They added, "From Black Sabbath to his solo work, Ozzy redefined what it meant to be heavy. He did it all with heart, courage, and that wild spirit that only he could bring."

Tyler's return to the stage was cautious, as he has been recovering from a severe vocal cord injury. Despite this, he delivered a powerful performance that showcased his iconic vocal range. This was Tyler's first major performance since he performed a few songs at his "Jam for Janie Grammy Awards Viewing Party" in Los Angeles in February.

Guitarist Joe Perry revealed the information about the end of Aerosmith's touring career to Boston radio station "WBUR" at the time. The reason for the tour ending was Tyler's vocal cord injury.

The performance was a fitting tribute to Ozzy Osbourne, who was a close friend and collaborator of Aerosmith. The two bands shared the stage numerous times throughout their careers, and their music continues to inspire generations of rock fans.

In conclusion, the MTV Video Music Awards 2025 was a memorable event for fans of Aerosmith and Ozzy Osbourne. Tyler's emotional return to the stage and the moving tribute to the late singer made for an unforgettable performance that will be remembered for years to come.
