Rohingya photographic display unveiled in collaboration between CPJ and Brac University
The Centre for Peace and Justice (CPJ) at BRAC University launched a photo exhibition titled "Ek Khaale: Once Upon a Time" on August 18, 2025. The exhibition, which runs until August 28, 2025, is housed at the BRAC University Exhibition Gallery.
The event was inaugurated by BRAC University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Syed Ferhat Anwar and Michael Miller, Ambassador and Head of Delegation of the European Union to Bangladesh. The exhibition was also attended by students, faculty, human rights advocates, diplomats, civil society representatives, and members of the BRAC University Board of Trustees, including Chairperson Tamara Hasan Abed.
The exhibition features the work of documentary photographer Greg Constantine, who has spent years documenting the lives of the Rohingya community. The exhibition aims to broaden understanding of the Rohingya by focusing on their stories and resilience.
Shahriar Sadat, Deputy Executive Director of CPJ, stated that the exhibition aims to connect young minds and provide new insights into the Rohingya community from a humanist perspective. Organisers emphasised that the conversations sparked by the exhibition on identity, resilience, and justice will continue to inspire action and awareness within the wider community.
The Bangladesh edition of Ek Khaale includes panel discussions and side events co-hosted with the South Asian Institute of Policy and Governance (SIPG) at North South University, CPJ's Refugee Studies Unit, OSUN Hubs for Connected Learning Initiatives, the Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies, and Legal Action Worldwide (LAW), Cox's Bazar.
Students from several universities in Bangladesh, including Dhaka University, BRAC University, BUP, East West University, World University Bangladesh, and the Canadian University of Bangladesh, attended the exhibition.
The exhibition invites audiences to reflect on memory, humanity, and resilience through striking photography, guided tours, and dialogue sessions. However, it is important to note that the exhibition is not open on Fridays and Saturdays.
As the exhibition enters its final week, organisers are encouraging everyone to visit and engage with the powerful images and stories on display. No new dates have been announced for the exhibition beyond its closing date of August 28, 2025.
