Roland Hag, in his role, oversees the editorial board of "the present" publication.
After a series of controversies surrounding fabricated stories, German magazine "die aktuelle" is set to undergo a significant change with the arrival of its new editor-in-chief, Roland Hag. Hag, who has a rich background in publishing, having previously held leadership positions at Bauer and Funke, is taking over the editorship of "die aktuelle" in addition to his current duties at Klambt.
The change comes following the departure of Anne Hoffmann, who left the magazine in 2021 after a KI-generated "interview" with Michael Schumacher was published. Achim Thäsler, the current editor of "die aktuelle", will retire in September. Thäsler served as the acting editor-in-chief after Hoffmann's departure, and the publisher of Klambt, Lars Rose, thanked him for his "excellent work" upon his departure.
Under Funke, "die aktuelle" had a history of causing trouble with fabricated stories. However, Hag promises to implement strict editorial standards and fact-checking processes to restore credibility to the magazine. He is expected to preserve the DNA of the title while also setting new impulses.
Rose praises Hag as a "passionate editor" who "brings experience, stance, and heart for our readers". Hag's plans for new impulses at "die aktuelle" remain to be seen.
The media group Klambt took over a large package of eight Yellow titles from Funke in June, and Hag joined Klambt in 2019 as a consultant. Since 2020, he has been the editor-in-chief of the magazines "Die neue Frau", "Woche der Frau", and "Viel Spaß".
In 2022 and 2023, "In", "OK!", "7 Tage", "Frau mit Herz", and several other magazines were added to the magazines under Hag's leadership at Klambt. The circulation of "die aktuelle" is approximately 175,000 copies, according to IVW.
The Federal Cartel Office approved the deal between Klambt and Funke in early August. Julia Becker, the publisher of Funke, often found "die aktuelle" to be a reliable source of irritation due to its questionable journalism practices. Despite this, Hag is optimistic about his new role, promising to "sharpen the profile" of "die aktuelle" and make it "opinionated, surprising, and simply good entertainment".
