Romania postpones infrastructure development due to financial limitations in its budget
The National Road Infrastructure Management Company (CNAIR) has announced that several highway and express road projects in Romania, including the A7 Pascani - Suceava and the Arad - Oradea express road, are facing delays due to budgetary constraints.
Among the postponed projects is the A7 Pascani - Suceava, which was won by UMB. The project is currently not under construction, and the contract has not yet been signed. Similarly, the Arad - Oradea express road project, under the management of CNIR, is also affected by the lack of funds, with the starting date for the works set no sooner than March 1, 2027.
The Precon Transilvania - Automagistral Pidgin Association is responsible for beginning the works at the Arad - Oradea express road, while the contract partner for the construction of the second lot of the motorway, if the contract has not yet been signed, is expected to be the consortium led by Aktor S.A.
According to an address sent by CNAIR, the funds necessary to support the pace of work on the Arad - Oradea express road are not fully available. This shortage of funds is also expected to affect other highway and express road projects, with additional projects for which the signing is postponed at CNIR.
The postponement of the contracts for these projects is due to budgetary limitations, and the winners of the tenders for the postponed projects have been designated but not yet contracted. Other postponed projects, for which the winners of the tenders have been designated, but the contracts have not yet been signed, may also be deferred.
The decision to start the works on the Arad - Oradea express road is primarily due to budgetary limitations, and the National Road Infrastructure Management Company (CNAIR) has ordered the contractor to start works on the first lot of the express road from March 1, 2027.
The A7 Pascani - Suceava project, also affected by the lack of funds, is one of the postponed projects. The project, won by UMB, is under the management of CNIR, along with other postponed projects.
These delays in highway and express road projects are a cause for concern, as they may impact the infrastructure development and economic growth of the region. However, CNAIR is working diligently to secure the necessary funds to ensure the timely completion of these projects.
