Romanian climber, Maria Dănilă, ascends K2 summit, marking her as the first Romanian woman to conquer this challenging peak.

Maria Dănilă, one of the most important Romanian female mountaineers, has achieved a remarkable feat by successfully climbing K2, the second-highest peak on the planet, at 8,611 meters. However, her journey was not without its challenges.

Dănilă reached the summit of K2 in 2025, a year after she conquered Chomolungma (Everest), the highest mountain in the world at 8,848 meters. Her K2 expedition, however, was not as enjoyable as her experience on Kanchenjunga.

On the descent route from K2, Dănilă's tentmate, Guan Jing, sadly lost her life after being hit by a rock. A Nepalese Sherpa was sent to recover Guan Jing's body but was injured and remains stuck. Dănilă was later rescued by helicopter and transported to Skardu Hospital.

Despite completing a major goal, Dănilă did not find the joy she expected due to physical and mental exhaustion, difficult conditions, and dramatic moments on the expedition. She expressed her feelings on her social media page, sharing her experiences with her followers.

Dănilă, from Constanta, is the first woman in Romania to climb the K2 peak. During her ascent, she was supported by the rope-fixing team and the organization Imagine Nepal. Specific names of her trainers or involved associations were not mentioned, but Nepali Sherpas and the Nepalese support network played a key role.

Despite the difficult moments and tough experience, Dănilă appreciated the spectacular landscapes, support from expedition organizers, and help from locals in Pakistan. Her journey serves as a testament to her resilience and determination, inspiring many around the world.
