Roof collapse at local supermarket leaves three people hurt
In a shocking turn of events, a partial collapse of a supermarket roof occurred in the town of Lauchringen, near the city of Waldshut-Tiengen on the Swiss border, on Saturday evening. The building, which is believed to be operated by a company likely part of the SPAR group, has been secured, but parts of the market are under water.
The incident happened during business hours, and at the time of the collapse, 26 people - customers and staff - were in the market. Three women were injured in the collapse, with one of them sustaining serious injuries and currently receiving treatment in the hospital. Previously, the police had spoken of four injured people, but it appears that one individual has been discharged from the hospital.
Upon learning of the incident, the Rewe Group, the company that manages the affected supermarket branch, expressed its sympathy to the injured and those present at the time of the accident. The Group also stated that the safety of customers, clients, and employees is its top priority. They are fully supporting the relevant authorities and emergency services in their investigation of the incident.
The cause of the collapse is still unknown and is being investigated further. The police cannot yet estimate the extent of the damage, but the partial collapse of the roof caused significant damage to the building. As a precaution, the gas, water, and electricity supply has been cut off.
The rescue services were called to the supermarket around 5:40 PM, and the building was evacuated following the collapse. The police are asking for the public's understanding and cooperation as they continue their investigation.
Further information will be provided as soon as reliable findings are available. The Rewe Group urges everyone to keep the injured individuals and their families in their thoughts during this difficult time.
