Rooftop blaze engulfs commercial district in Gladbecker

A fire broke out on the roof of an unoccupied flat-roof bungalow in the industrial area on Hornstraße, Gladbeck, on July 11, 2025, at around 3:15 PM. The fire department, emergency services, and THW (Technical Relief Agency) responded to the scene with approximately 100 personnel and about 30 vehicles.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the fire. However, the entire roof had to be removed with the support of the THW to extinguish the blaze. The Fire Department of Gladbeck deployed their cold-cut foam system, but it did not yield satisfactory results.

The police are now responsible for investigating the cause of the fire. The scene of the fire on Hornstraße has been handed over to the police for investigation. The name of the arsonist, if any, has not been publicly disclosed.

The population was warned via the NINA warning app due to heavy smoke. There was a significant risk of the fire spreading to neighboring buildings through the densely packed trees, but the defensive line formed on the building's rear side towards the neighboring business helped prevent this.

The Fire Department of Gladbeck is not providing any updates on the cause or extent of property damage from the fire. Further updates on the cause of the fire or the extent of property damage will need to come from the police investigation.
