Royals retain two skilled athletes.
Marie Simon and Gloria Kunisch Set to Return for Saarlouis Royals in 2025/26 Season
Marie Simon, the 23-year-old Luxembourgian basketball star, is set to make a comeback for the Saarlouis Royals in the upcoming 2025/26 season. The talented forward, who won the U23 championship with BBC Gréngwald in 2022, missed the last season due to an injury. However, she is now fit and ready to rejoin the Royals.
Simon's return brings valuable experience from the 2. DBBL Süd, where she averaged 8.6 points and 7.2 rebounds per game in the 2023/24 season. The Royals are eager to benefit from her skills as they focus on the development and promotion of young talents from the region.
Joining Simon is Gloria Kunisch, a 16-year-old Saarland talent who gained experience in the Toyota 1. Damen-Basketball-Bundesliga (DBBL) last season. Kunisch, a point guard, is known for her game overview, precise passes, and engaged defense. She has previously played for the TV Illingen Vikings, Royal Thunder, and the Saarlouis Royals, gaining valuable experience in each team.
Last season, Kunisch played in the qualification for the Weibliche Nachwuchs-Bundesliga (WNBL), where the Royals achieved a respectable third place. Despite the lack of specific details about her performance in the Toyota 1. Damen-Basketball-Bundesliga (DBBL) last season, her potential was evident in the preparation games before the season.
The Royals are planning continuity in the youth sector for the upcoming season under the guidance of coach Timur Topal. Topal, who will be at the helm for the 2025/26 season, is known for his focus on nurturing young talent.
Marie Simon's stint with the BBC Gréngwald in 2022 marked her as a rising star in the basketball world. Her impressive performance and the Royals' focus on youth development promise an exciting season ahead for the Saarlouis Royals.
