"Russell Wilson's employment with the Giants is uncertain following a potentially ominous warning from coach Brian Daboll, who hinted at pulling the plug after Week 1."

In the opening game of the 2025 NFL season, the New York Giants faced the Washington Commanders and unfortunately came up short, losing 21-6. The Giants managed 231 total yards of offense, with wide receiver Nabers leading the team in receiving with 71 yards and five catches.

Jaxson Dart, the rookie quarterback drafted in the first round in April 2025, impressed in the preseason and was expected to make his NFL debut in the regular-season opener. However, Russell Wilson, the veteran quarterback, started the game and completed 17 of 37 passes for 168 yards and a 59.3 rating.

During the game, Nabers was seen having an animated conversation with coach Brian Daboll on the sidelines. Daboll attempted to high five Nabers after their conversation, but it is unclear whether Nabers noticed. Nabers addressed his frustration after the loss, stating he was trying to get guys going and boost energy. However, he looked dejected on the bench late in the game, with a towel thrown over his head.

Coach Daboll refused to point the finger directly at Wilson after the loss but was non-committal about his future as the starting quarterback. CBS Sports' Senior NFL Columnist Pete Prisco argued that Wilson's career as a starting quarterback in the NFL is over.

The Giants have been accused of violating NFL's clear-cut media rules by reporter Darryl Slater, as they have refused to let Dart or Jameis Winston talk to media, disregarding long-standing league protocol. It remains unclear why the organization is 'muzzling' Dart, but the quarterback situation in New York will be closely watched heading into Week 2.

Jayden Daniels, the Rookie of the Year for the Washington Commanders, led his team in the game. The Commanders finished last season with a trip to the NFC title game, and they showed their form once again in this match.

The Giants converted only 4 of 16 third downs, contributing to their struggles on offense. The loss marks a disappointing start to the season for the Giants, and they will be looking to bounce back in their next game against the Dallas Cowboys.
