Russia continues to lack readiness for negotiations as per Zelensky's assertion

In a recent evening address, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his disappointment over the lack of progress in arranging a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The proposed meeting, announced two weeks ago in Washington, has yet to materialize.

Zelenskyy criticized Putin for making new excuses and accused Russia of not being willing to engage in dialogue. He reminded Russia of the proposed meeting date and emphasized the need for a quick end to the ongoing conflict.

The main obstacle to a direct meeting between the two leaders, according to Zelenskyy, is Russia's refusal to recognize his legitimacy as Ukraine's president. This stems from Zelenskyy remaining in office under wartime law despite his official term having expired.

Russia's Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, stated that Putin does not want to speak to Zelenskyy because he questions his legitimacy as President of Ukraine. The Kremlin, on the other hand, has been offering excuses and evasions instead of arranging a meeting.

The world is emphasizing the need for a quick end to the war, but recent reports suggest that Russia is investing in further war rather than dialogue. The Kremlin's actions suggest a lack of readiness for a meeting at the highest level.

Meanwhile, Putin is currently visiting China, raising questions about his willingness to prioritize diplomatic efforts with Ukraine. Putin has been ruling continuously since 2012, thanks to constitutional amendments favorable to him regarding term limits.

Zelenskyy, who remains in power under martial law despite his term having expired according to the Ukrainian constitution, continues to await a direct meeting with Putin. The fate of the proposed meeting remains uncertain, with both sides seemingly at an impasse.
