In the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, several significant events have taken place over the past few days.

The European Union is considering the use of frozen Russian assets to finance Ukraine's defense and reconstruction efforts post-war. This potential move comes as Ukrainian forces have achieved successes at the front, preventing Russian troops from capturing targets in the Donetsk region and halting further advances into the Dnipropetrovsk region.

Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held consultations with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy before meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in China. The discussions were likely focused on the ongoing conflict, although no official statements have been made regarding the content of their conversation.

In a separate development, supporters in the US are providing three powerful generators worth around one million dollars to the region of Kherson, Ukraine. These generators are intended for a hospital and two for heating supply for the population, offering much-needed relief in the war-torn region.

Russian forces have been encircled by the Ukrainian military near Dobropillia in the Donetsk region. However, Moscow's Chief of Staff Valery Gerasimov has announced a continuation of extensive air attacks against Ukraine, with targets primarily being military facilities and the defense industry. This aggressive stance by Russia has resulted in repeated targeting of Ukraine's energy infrastructure.

The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) disputes Russia's claims of territorial gains in the war against Ukraine. According to ISW estimates, only about 2,346 square kilometers of territory and 130 settlements have been captured since March, contradicting Russian claims of 3,500 square kilometers and 149 settlements. Furthermore, ISW estimates that Russian forces advanced only 440 to 500 kilometers per month in June, July, and August, contradicting claims of gaining 600 to 700 square kilometers per month.

As the conflict continues, a peace agreement or lasting ceasefire seems distant. Western supporting countries are planning to deter Russia from another attack by considering the use of private US military firms to secure Ukrainian defense positions, military bases, and protect companies in which US investors are involved. However, no specific company names have been disclosed publicly.

Lithuania is taking steps to bolster its defenses, installing 'Dragon's Teeth' at border control points with Russia and Belarus as part of the Baltic Defense Line. Meanwhile, the Russian air force has intercepted 21 drones from Ukraine over several regions, although no statement has been made from Kyiv regarding the intercepted drones.

In a separate incident, the Ukrainian air defense counted 537 drones and 45 missiles in an overnight attack, resulting in one civilian death and at least 30 injuries in the city of Saporischschja.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived in China for a multi-day visit, which may provide an opportunity for discussions on the Ukraine-Russia conflict. However, the outcome of these discussions remains to be seen.
