Russian Leader Meets with Iranian President to Discuss Nuclear Agenda - Russian President Vladimir Putin engages in a discussion with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi regarding their nuclear initiatives.
In a significant move, Germany, France, and the UK took action to reimpose UN Security Council sanctions on Tehran on Thursday, citing Iran's non-compliance with its commitments to limit its nuclear program. This decision comes amidst the ongoing crisis surrounding Iran's nuclear program.
Meanwhile, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) held its two-day summit in Tianjin, China, where more than 20 heads of state and government, including Iranian President Peseschkian, gathered. The summit marked a move towards a multipolar world order, with leaders from China, Russia, India, Turkey, and Iran, among others, in attendance.
The SCO issued a statement warning against a "misinterpretation" of a UN resolution that had endorsed the 2015 Iranian nuclear deal regarding the reimposition of UN sanctions against Iran. The organization stated that any attempt to falsely or arbitrarily reinterpret the UN Security Council resolution would undermine its authority.
The 2015 Iranian nuclear deal aimed to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons, and the sanctions against Tehran were lifted as part of the agreement. However, Iran has been accused of non-compliance with its commitments to limit its nuclear program, a claim that has sparked international concern.
Russian President Putin was among the attendees at the SCO summit in Tianjin, while the USA was not mentioned as an attendee. The Kremlin was not mentioned in the context of the summit. China, on the other hand, used the SCO to strengthen its relations with Central Asian states and establish a counterbalance to Western alliances like NATO.
Iran condemned the move to reimpose UN sanctions as "illegal" and threatened consequences. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) also stated its position against the reimposition of UN sanctions against Iran.
The 2025 Tianjin SCO summit was the largest in SCO history, held from August 31 to September 1, 2025, and reflected regional security tensions and opposition to Western-led policies, as evidenced by Iran's participation and related geopolitical discussions.
