In a united front, the Swedish government has announced its support for a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, aligning with a coalition of 26 European countries, including France, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Estonia, and Lithuania. This coalition, formed in response to Russia's aggression against Ukrainian cities and civilian populations, has offered security guarantees and is prepared to support Ukraine with military and political measures, including new sanctions against Russia.

The tragic attack on Thursday, which targeted apartment blocks in the Ukrainian capital, has left at least 23 lives (including 4 children) lost and around 50 injuries reported. Russian missiles and drones were responsible for this devastating incident, causing significant damage to both residential buildings and the European Union mission.

The Swedish Foreign Minister, Maria Malmer Stenergard, has stated that it is clear Russia is not interested in peace. This attack, part of Russia's continuous attacks on Ukrainian cities and civilians, has prompted the summoning of the Russian ambassadors in Brussels and London by the EU and Britain.

Not only residential areas and the European Union mission, but also two media outlets' offices were affected in this attack. This aggressive action against the media underscores the need for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict.

The international community continues to stand with Ukraine in its pursuit of peace and stability. As the world watches this unfold, it is crucial that all parties involved prioritise the well-being and safety of civilians and work towards a negotiated settlement.
