Dublin-Based Musician Adam Smyth Prepares for the Release of His Second Solo Record

Adam Smyth, a well-known musician, songwriter, and producer based in the Northside of Dublin, is gearing up for the release of his second solo record as The New York Salsa Company. The upcoming album, titled Our Landscape Is Now, is set to feature a new single, This Machine Is Now.

Smyth's journey in the music industry began in 2007, when he attended his first ever gig — Enter Shikari at The Ambassador in Dublin. Since then, he has made a name for himself as a versatile artist, with each of his releases showcasing a unique sound. His current work is all guitar-based music, with themes revolving around the end of the world.

This Machine Is Now encapsulates a feeling of someone who has given up on a sense of community, solidarity, and a shared experience. It serves as a reflection on the world's politics and how it can make one feel isolated and powerless. The single is a poignant commentary on the current state of the world, and it is sure to resonate with many listeners.

Smyth is not only a talented musician but also a co-founder of the independent label Bad Soup Records. Over the years, Bad Soup Records has released over 25 records by acts like Brian Dillon (Meltybrains?) and Julia Louise Knifefist.

In addition to his work as a solo artist, Smyth has sung and played bass with Tribal Dance for many years. His musical inspirations are diverse, ranging from Tom Waits and Nina Simone to Clutchy Hopkins, Alan Vega, and Wendy & Bonnie. Currently, his favorite song is Sycamore Trees by Jimmy Scott.

A favorite lyric of Smyth is from Garreth Liddiard's song Did She Scare All Your Friends Away. If he could only listen to one song for the rest of his life, it would be Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow? by The Shirelles.

To celebrate the release of Our Landscape Is Now, Smyth will be playing the album in full at Whelan's, Dublin on 21 October. The event will serve as a fundraiser for Medical Aid for Palestinians. Fans can follow Smyth on Instagram and Bandcamp to stay updated on the album's release and upcoming performances.
