Sammie Szmodics to miss Ireland's World Cup qualifier versus Armenia
Ireland Call-Up for Josh Honohan as Szmodics Suffers Injury
Josh Honohan, a wingback from Shamrock Rovers, has been called up to the Republic of Ireland national team for the upcoming World Cup qualifier against Armenia, following an injury to Sammie Szmodics.
Szmodics, who started the match against Hungary on Saturday, was substituted on 78 minutes during the 2-2 draw. The midfielder tweeted his disappointment at having to leave the camp early, expressing hope that it is not a serious injury.
In his absence, Mikey Johnson replaced Szmodics during the match against Hungary. However, Szmodics will not feature in the upcoming qualifier against Armenia, paving the way for Honohan to make his debut for the national team.
Honohan, who has not been capped by the Republic of Ireland before this call-up, will be eager to make an impact in his first appearance. Chiedozie Ogbene is expected to feature off the right in the match.
The Republic of Ireland's World Cup qualifier against Armenia will take place in Yerevan on Tuesday at 5pm Irish time. This will be the team's next match following the draw against Hungary on Saturday.
Joshua Honohan, an Irish football player, is set to make his debut for the Irish national team in the World Cup qualifier against Armenia on September 8, 2023. Fans will be hoping that his call-up marks the start of a successful international career for the Shamrock Rovers player.
