Samsung's Family Care update enables caregivers to monitor their loved ones closely
Samsung has announced an update to its SmartThings Family Care feature, a service designed to support caregivers in monitoring elderly or dependent family members. This update, expected to roll out soon for Galaxy devices, aims to simplify check-ins for easier use by those unfamiliar with apps.
With the new update, users can set up schedules and reminders for daily meals and medicine, ensuring their loved ones maintain a healthy routine. family Care allows caregivers to stay in the loop about their loved one’s activity, receiving alerts when a loved one leaves or arrives at a catalogued location. Users can fine-tune the duration of down periods and select specific appliances for which they want to receive alerts.
Caregivers can now get insights into when their loved one has used the TV and other appliances, providing valuable information about their daily activities. Furthermore, alerts can now inform caregivers when a loved one has not used an appliance for a while, potentially indicating a change in routine that may require attention.
The update also enables caregivers to respond immediately to an alert via phone call or text, ensuring prompt action can be taken if necessary. To make the process even more seamless, caregivers can now send a text message with a link to Family Care for acceptance.
Family Care connects to other smart home appliances, providing location-based notifications and health data integration via Samsung Health. This feature, introduced last year, is now available in over 200 countries. The update also allows families to define caregiver and care recipient roles more clearly, enhancing the overall user experience.
In addition, the update includes a map to show the path traveled by the loved one, providing caregivers with a visual representation of their loved one’s movements. This update for Samsung’s SmartThings Family Care feature is yet another step forward in leveraging technology to support caregivers and ensure the wellbeing of their loved ones.
