School Closure on September 6, 2025 (Saturday): List of States and Cities with Closed Schools; Find Information Here
Schools and educational institutions in various parts of India will be closed on September 6, 2025, due to a combination of festivals and natural calamities.
In Telangana, the state government, led by Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao, has declared September 6 as a general holiday. This decision comes as a compensation for the holiday on the same day, as institutions in Hyderabad, Secunderabad, Ranga Reddy, and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts will remain closed due to the grand Ganesh idol immersion procession.
Elsewhere in the country, schools in Kerala are closed from September 4 to 7, 2025, for the Onam festival, providing students with a nearly 10-day festive vacation. In contrast, schools in Moradabad district of Uttar Pradesh will enjoy a three-day break from September 5 to 7, 2025, due to Barah Wafat, Anant Chaturdashi (Ganesh Visarjan), and the Sunday weekly holiday.
Unfortunately, not all closures are due to festive celebrations. In Punjab, all schools, colleges, universities, and polytechnics will remain closed until September 7, 2025, due to the worst flood situation in nearly 40 years. The Directorate of School Education in Jammu & Kashmir has instructed schools to ensure cleanliness and safety measures before resuming classes, as schools will reopen on September 8, 2025, after a two-week closure due to heavy rains and floods.
Similarly, Himachal Pradesh is also affected by the weather, with all schools and DIETs remaining closed until September 7, 2025, due to heavy rainfall, landslides, and IMD alerts. Schools in Jammu & Kashmir will reopen under similar circumstances, with classes resuming on September 8, 2025.
In New Delhi and the surrounding area of Gurugram, schools and universities are expected to be affected by closures due to flooding caused by the Yamuna River exceeding danger levels and heavy rains. However, no specific closures due to Ganesh Visarjan or Anant Chaturdashi were reported for that date.
Schools in Kerala will reopen after the Onam celebrations as per the state's academic calendar, and classes in Moradabad district will resume on September 8, 2025. Institutions in Punjab are expected to reopen on September 8, 2025, unless further extended.
On September 6, 2025, schools, colleges, and other educational institutions in many states and cities across India will be closed, creating a unique day of rest for students nationwide.
