School speed limits enforcements dubbed 'Blitz for Kids' intended to boost safety during commutes to school.

In the city of Hanau, the "Blitz for Kids" traffic safety initiative was recently carried out by the local police force, in collaboration with the Hessian Police Headquarters. The initiative, which has been established in several federal states for many years, aims to increase awareness among road users of the dangers around schools and prevent accidents involving children.

On Monday, the Hanau police conducted speed checks at two schools. During the morning, officers monitored vehicles on "In den Argonnerwiesen" street, a 50 km/h zone, while in the afternoon, the focus shifted to "Alter Rückinger Weg", a 30 km/h zone. A mobile speed camera was used to monitor vehicles at both locations.

During the day's action, a total of 90 vehicles were controlled. The most serious offense was a driver traveling at 55 km/h on "Alter Rückinger Wiege". Police Officer Thorsten Zimmermann, who headed the control point on the day, stated that every meter over the speed limit can be dangerous near schools.

32 speeding offenses were recorded during the action. Of these, 25 were in the warning fine range, while 7 were in the penalty fine range. Officers paid special attention to "parent taxis" due to their potential to cause dangerous situations around schools.

The purpose of the controls was to remind road users to drive carefully and slowly to ensure the safety of young road users. The goal is to ensure responsible behavior from parents, students, and all road users, especially at the beginning of the school year.

Further controls are planned as part of the "Blitz for Kids" initiative. For more information, please visit the South East Hesse Police Headquarters' homepage or contact their Press Office at the provided email address or phone numbers. Fax details are also available.
