School traffic regulations enforced during opening; school building defaced causing EUR 500 worth of damage; bicyclist involved in traffic collision, escaped from the scene, and further incidents
In the region of Southeast Hesse, several incidents have occurred over the past few days, with the local police forces actively investigating. Here's a roundup of the latest news.
A 52-year-old man from Langenselbold is under investigation for endangering traffic safety following a hit-and-run incident on Buchbergblick on Tuesday at around 12:30 PM. The man, suspected to be under the influence of intoxicating substances, collided with a parked car and fled the scene. He now faces charges in connection with this incident.
Witnesses to an incident causing damage to a vehicle in Bad Orb are asked to report to the Bad Orb police station at 06052 9148-0. The police are also investigating a jewelry theft in Hanau, and anyone with useful information is asked to contact the investigators in Hanau at 06181 100-123.
In Hanau, an elderly woman's jewelry was stolen from a multi-family home on Hanauer Weg through an open bedroom window on Tuesday morning around 7:45 AM. Meanwhile, in Hasselroth/Gondsroth, a thief stole various items, including jewelry and cash, worth approximately €5,000, by taking advantage of an open bedroom window to gain entry to a house on Tuesday between 8:30 AM and 5:30 PM.
Two e-bikes and one bicycle, worth approximately €15,000, were stolen from a garden shed in Hammersbach/Langen-Bergheim on Tuesday. Furthermore, approximately €2,500 worth of damage was caused to a parked vehicle on the parking lot of a supermarket at Gewerbestraße 36 in Bad Orb between 12:15 PM and 12:45 PM on Tuesday.
Elsewhere, a 64-year-old driver in Schönau collided with a motorcycle while attempting to turn from the Nidderauer Straße onto the Frankfurter Straße on Tuesday around 2:55 PM. Both parties sustained slight injuries, and approximately €2,800 in damage was caused. A 36-year-old cyclist, allegedly drunk, damaged two parked vehicles in Nidderau/Heldenbergen on Tuesday around noon, causing approximately €3,500 in total damage.
The police in Schlüchtern are seeking witnesses for the vandalism of a school wall and the traffic controls. The wall of a school building on Gartenstraße in Schlüchtern was vandalized with a black marker pen, causing damage of around €500. The police in Schlüchtern also led traffic controls on Monday, including stationary controls in Schlüchtern and Birstein by uniformed officers and civilian police officers on the state road between Steinau an der Straße and Marjoß.
The police in Hanau, Bad Orb, and Schlüchtern are currently investigating all these incidents. Meanwhile, the Police Directorate Südhessen has announced that Christian Vögele will become the new head (police president) starting October 7, 2025.
