Scotland clinches a 2-0 victory over Belarus in Hungary, with the game played behind closed doors.
Scotland continued their impressive run in the World Cup qualifying group stage with a 2-0 victory over Belarus, held at the ZTE Arena in Zalaegerszeg, Hungary. The match was played behind closed doors due to a ruling by UEFA, following Belarus's involvement as a key staging post for Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
The first half of the match was drab, with few opportunities for either team. However, just before half-time, Che Adams broke the deadlock. Scott McTominay provided the assist for Adams' goal, which came in the 43rd minute.
Billy Gilmour rattled the post earlier in the match, setting the stage for Scotland's opening goal. The second half saw Scotland doubling their lead in the 65th minute, but not in the way they would have hoped. Zakhar Volkov, the Belarus defender, misjudged a cross, resulting in an own goal.
The match was affected by political tensions between Belarus and Ukraine, with Scotland now level with Denmark in Group C standings, both teams having four points after two matches. Denmark also secured their fourth point in Group C with a 3-0 win against Greece. Greece, meanwhile, suffered a defeat in their World Cup qualifying match.
The ZTE Arena in Zalaegerszeg, Hungary, was chosen as a venue for football matches due to Belarus's exclusion by UEFA. The match between Scotland and Belarus was held near the Austrian and Slovenian borders.
Scotland will look to build on this victory as they continue their quest for World Cup qualification, with their next match scheduled against Moldova in June.
