Hanau Police Secure Illegal One-Handed Knife in Weapons Ban Zone
On Thursday evening, South East Hesse Police secured an illegal one-handed knife during a control action in Hanau's city centre. The control action took place between 15:00 and 23:00 within the boundaries of the weapons ban platform zone.
Since August 1, 2025, a permanently established weapons ban platform zone has been in effect in Hanau's city centre, covering large parts including Freedom Square, Market Square, Forum Hanau, Castle Garden, and numerous side streets, passages, and squares.
During the control action, the police focused their patrol on Freedom Square, Market Square, and Castle Park. A total of 24 people were controlled. No information was found regarding a person involved in an illegal action related to a control operation at Castle Park in Hanau on Monday evening at 15:00.
Thomas Leipold, police spokesman, stated that rules have an effect only if they are enforced. He emphasised that the controls ensure that the weapons ban platform zone is not just a theoretical concept or signage, but a tangible reality in daily life.

The secured illegal one-handed knife was a violation of the Weapons Act. The police spokesman reiterated that the focus of the controls is to ensure the safety and security of the citizens of Hanau.
