Security measures at airports: a farewell to old practices and the introduction of new strategies after a 25-year hiatus.

After a quarter of a century of dedicated service, Pastor Björn Kranefuß is retiring from his position as airport chaplain at Hamburg Airport in Fuhlsbüttel. His successor, Pastor Christina Stemmann, will begin her duties on October 1.

Pastor Kranefuß has been a pillar of support for the airport community, shaping the airport chaplaincy into an indispensable resource for employees and travellers alike. He has shown particular appreciation for the airport's staff, expressing gratitude for their great appreciation.

Over the years, Pastor Kranefuß has witnessed significant changes in air traffic, with the 9/11 attacks being a turning point. Despite the challenges, he has remained a constant presence, offering comfort and support in times of need. He has been involved in cases of illness, death, emotional crises, travel blessings, weddings, and even the founding of a choir.

Pastor Kranefuß's farewell and Pastor Stemmann's inauguration services will be held on September 16 at 5 PM at Hamburg Airport Fuhlsbüttel, Terminal 2, Top Deck. The services will be held at the Holy Trinity Church (Heilige Dreieinigkeitskirche), which belongs to the St. Georg-Borgfelde parish.

Pastor Stemmann, who has previously worked at the Paulskirche in Schenefeld and the Professional School in Pinneberg, has expressed her enthusiasm for her new role as airport chaplain. She views chaplaincy as particularly close to her heart and finds the airport an exciting place with a special connection.

During her studies, Pastor Stemmann even worked at a check-in, giving her a unique insight into the daily operations of the airport. She is looking forward to continuing Pastor Kranefuß's legacy and providing support to the airport community in her own way.

Christian Kunsch, CEO of Hamburg Airport, thanks Pastor Kranefuß for his commitment and service. He has been a valuable asset to the airport and will be missed. However, the airport community is excited to welcome Pastor Stemmann and looks forward to her tenure as airport chaplain.

On September 16, the airport community will gather to bid farewell to Pastor Kranefuß and welcome Pastor Stemmann. It promises to be a memorable occasion, marking a new chapter in the history of the airport chaplaincy at Hamburg Airport.
