Senior resident, Sarah Vandeveer, aged 89, has spent her entire life in the area.
Sarah Vandeveer, a cherished member of the community, passed away on August 14, 2025, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. A life well-lived will be remembered through a series of services in her hometown of Springfield.
The funeral for Sarah Vandeveer took place at the church located at 123 Main Street, Springfield. A Mass will follow the Rosary for Sarah, which will be recited at 9:30 a.m. on September 3, 2025. The Mass will be held at Holy Ghost Catholic Church 833 Arizona St. SE.
Sarah leaves behind a loving family. She is survived by her daughter Valerie Bennett, grandchildren Tate Prue, Brian Prue, and Joseph Prue. She is also survived by several siblings and their spouses: Robert Aranda and Anna, Richard Aranda and Cecilia, Joe Aranda and Theresa, Manny Aranda and Angie, Helen Joy Madrid and Augustine, Patty Garcia, Azelle Garcia, and Martin Aranda.
Sarah was preceded in death by her daughter Sharon Lopez Hammond, parents Tony and Helen Aranda, brother Ross Aranda, brother Pete Aranda and wife Dee, and brother in-laws Al Garcia and Salvador Garcia, and "side-kick" Joel Garcia. Her sister in-law is Lorraine Calles-Aranda.
A Visitation for Sarah will be held on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. This will be an opportunity for friends and family to pay their respects and share memories of Sarah.
Burial for Sarah Vandeveer will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery 1900 Edith Blvd NE.
