September marks the return of New York City's poignant Lightning Tributes, a long-standing tradition honoring 9/11, with the spectacle being visible from approximately 60 miles away.

On the 24th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, the Tribute in Light will once again illuminate the New York City skyline. This iconic public art installation, located on the roof of the Battery Parking Garage, south of the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, will reflect the shape and original location of the Twin Towers, standing 48 feet on a side.

The Tribute in Light consists of 88 xenon bulbs that project twin beams four miles high into the night sky. This powerful symbol of strength, resilience, and spirit can be seen up to 60 miles away, but some of the best viewing spots are in New York City.

Battery Park, Brooklyn Bridge Park, Astoria Park in Queens, Hoboken waterfront, and Liberty State Park in Jersey City offer unobstructed views of southern Manhattan for the Tribute in Light. Other notable landmarks in New York, including the Empire State Building, One World Trade Center, Rockefeller Center, and the Oculus, will be lit in solidarity. Bridges and landmarks throughout the state of New York will also participate in the light tribute.

The Tribute in Light was first conceived by artists John Bennett, Gustavo Bonevardi, and Paul Myoda as a temporary memorial for the victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Since then, it has become a symbolic tradition of New York City, presented six months after the attacks.

September 11, 2025, will not only mark the anniversary of a tragic event but also a time for remembrance and unity. Other notable events happening in New York City in September 2025 include San Gennaro, Broadway Week, and the US Open. The spirit of New York shines brighter than ever, as symbolized by the Tribute in Light.

As the twilight of September 11th approaches, the Tribute in Light will be displayed until the dawn of the following morning. Let us remember and honour the lives lost, and let the Tribute in Light serve as a beacon of hope and resilience for years to come.
