September once again marks thereturn of New York's Tribute in Light, a poignant annual tradition honoring the victims of 9/11, with the shimmering towers of light visible for up to 60 miles.

The city that never sleeps will once again pause to remember on the 24th anniversary of 9/11. On September 11th, 2025, iconic landmarks throughout New York and beyond will light up in solidarity, honouring the memory of the attacks.

One of the most iconic New York traditions, the Tribute in Light, will return. Located on the roof of the Battery Parking Garage, south of the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, the Tribute in Light consists of 88 xenon lamps that project twin beams four miles high into the night sky of Lower Manhattan. The beams, arranged in two squares of 48 feet, mirror the original form and positioning of the Twin Towers.

The Tribute in Light has become one of the world's most recognised memorials, symbolising the strength, resilience, and spirit of New York City. It is a public art installation honoring those lost in the 9/11 attacks.

Several viewing locations around the city offer a unique perspective of this powerful tribute. Battery Park, being the closest to Ground Zero, is a popular spot. Brooklyn Bridge Park offers a view framed by the city skyline, while Astoria Park in Queens and Hoboken Waterfront in New Jersey are also recommended. Liberty State Park in Jersey City is another viewing location for those across the river.

On this special day, famous New York buildings will also join the tribute. The Empire State Building, One World Trade Center, Rockefeller Center, and the Oculus will light up in solidarity, adding to the city's luminous landscape.

The Tribute in Light will be displayed from twilight on September 11th, 2025, until the following morning's dawn. As the city lights up, New Yorkers and visitors alike will gather to remember, reflect, and pay tribute.

September 2025 promises to be a memorable month in New York City, with events such as San Gennaro, Broadway Week, and the US Open taking place. As the city honours its past, it also looks forward to the future, continuing to stand tall and resilient.
