In the quaint Old Church of Hünfeld-Sargenzell, a unique annual exhibit is taking centre stage. The Fruit Carpet, a biblical-themed exhibit made of seeds, grains, and ground leaves, is back for its 2023 display.

This year's theme, "The Storm on the Sea", symbolizes the idea that together, people can withstand the storms of life. The motif was designed by the Fulda artist Heike Richter, who painstakingly created the template in April. The design changes every year, making each exhibit a fresh and captivating sight.

The creation of the Fruit Carpet is a labour of love that takes several months. In May, Heike Richter, along with her fellow campaigners, laid the motif in painstaking detail using spoons and tweezers. The eight large boards were then placed and secured in the church.

The Fruit Carpet measures 24 square meters and is currently on display. Admission to view this stunning exhibit is free, making it accessible to all. The image on the Fruit Carpet this year symbolizes trust, with people sitting in a boat to represent unity and strength to withstand life's challenges.

Brigitte Lindner, a member of the Support Association Old Church Sargenzell e.V. 1989, explains the symbolism of the Fruit Carpet's image. She also shares that the association would be happy to receive a small donation to support the continuation of this annual tradition.

The Fruit Carpet will be on display until November 9th, so be sure to visit the Old Church in Hünfeld-Sargenzell to witness this remarkable exhibit before it's gone. It's a testament to the power of community and the resilience of the human spirit, beautifully captured in seeds, grains, and ground leaves.
