Seven-time German Musical Theatre Award Nominee: Brothers Grimm Festival in Hanau
The Brothers Grimm Festival Hanau has once again proven its prowess in the world of musical theater, securing seven nominations for the German Musical Theater Award 2025. The nominations, which span various categories, are a testament to the festival's consistent delivery of high-quality productions.
Leading the nominations is the premiere of "Hansel and Gretel", which has been nominated in six categories. The production, which has been praised for its captivating storytelling and exceptional performances, is up for "Best Revival", "Best Composition" (Jan Radermacher and Timo Riegelsberger), "Best Book" (Jan Radermacher and Timo Riegelsberger), "Best Costume and Makeup" (Anke Küper, Kerstin Laackmann, and Wiebke Quenzel), and "Best Supporting Actress" for both Judith Jakob and Valerija Laubach. Marius Schneider has also been nominated for "Best Supporting Actor" for his role in the production.
The "Best Revival" category for the musical "The Bremen Town Musicians" has no specific nominee as of yet. However, the German premiere of the musical has been nominated, adding to the festival's impressive tally.
The Brothers Grimm Festival Hanau has a rich history of securing nominations and winning awards in the German Musical Theater Prize. In 2017, the festival won two categories: best lyrics and best leading actress. Previous years have seen awards for best costume and makeup design in 2016, 2022, and 2023.
The award ceremony for the German Musical Theater Award will take place on October 27 in Berlin. The festival's Intendant, Frank-Lorenz Engel, expressed his delight at the nominations, saying, "We are thrilled to be recognised for our hard work and dedication to bringing these timeless stories to life on stage."
Mayor Claus Kaminsky also emphasised the importance of the nominations, stating, "The Brothers Grimm Festival Hanau continues to be a beacon of excellence in the world of musical theater. These nominations are a testament to the passion and talent of everyone involved."
