Severe road collision on motorway 44 in Dortmund results in one person being hurt
On August 29, 2025, a significant traffic accident occurred on the A44 highway between Lichtenau Westfalen exit and Wünnenberg interchange. The incident involved a silo truck and an overtaking motorhome.
According to the information transmitted by Polizei Bielefeld via news aktuell, the accident occurred at approximately 15:19. The motorhome veered off the road, flipped over, and ended up in a ditch. The 62-year-old driver from Gelsenkirchen, who was at the wheel of the silo truck, hit the guardrail but fortunately escaped injury.
The 59-year-old driver from Dassel, who was driving the motorhome, suffered severe injuries. Medical treatment was administered at the scene before the driver was taken to a nearby hospital. Thankfully, the two dogs in the motorhome were rescued by the fire department and taken to an animal shelter.
The A44 highway in the direction of Dortmund was fully closed from 15:19 to 20:17 for accident investigation and recovery operations. A detour was set up for traffic during the closure.
