The Alexandria Sheriff's Office (ASO) has launched a new recruitment drive to fill 12 deputy vacancies within the department. The initiative, which includes the creation of a dedicated recruiting website, aims to attract qualified individuals who meet the specific criteria set by the ASO.

To become a deputy sheriff in Alexandria, candidates must meet several requirements. They must hold a valid driver's license, have a high school diploma or GED, and be at least 21 years old. Moreover, prospective deputies cannot have been dishonorably discharged from any branch of the United States Military, nor can they have a misdemeanor conviction involving moral turpitude, a misdemeanor sex offense, or one related to domestic violence. They also cannot be listed as the respondent to a protective order, or have a felony conviction or an offense equivalent to a felony in Virginia.

The ASO offers competitive salaries for its deputies. Entry-level deputies can expect to earn an annual salary of $61,375, while those with law enforcement and/or Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services certifications can earn up to $67,667 per year. Lateral hires from other law enforcement agencies may also receive a $10,000 hiring bonus, as stated in a job listing.

The name of the sheriff responsible for personnel issuance at the ASO is not publicly specified. Last year, the Alexandria Sheriff brought back retirees to address a staffing shortage, but the recruiting drive now aims to attract new candidates to the force.

To learn more about the recruitment drive and the requirements for becoming a deputy sheriff in Alexandria, interested individuals are encouraged to visit the ASO's new recruiting website, JoinASO.com. The website was launched on Aug. 13, according to the ASO.
