Shock callers in Wennigsen causing substantial harm, police issue new warnings against fraud and offer advice for prevention
In the quiet town of Wennigsen, a family's savings were stolen by unknown scammers on September 2, 2025. The perpetrators contacted a 59-year-old woman, posing as police officers, and told her about a supposed traffic accident caused by her daughter. They demanded a bail payment to prevent her daughter's imprisonment.
The Police Directorate Hannover, in a statement provided to news aktuell, suspects that these scammers may be part of organized criminal networks, potentially linked to North Korean groups. They are also investigating the case for extortion in a commercial and organized manner.
The suspected perpetrators are believed to operate from call centers, employing tactics such as sending fake lawyer letters promising crypto compensation, and using phishing methods. The police believe that these scammers will attempt to deceive more people and are urging the public to stay vigilant.
The perpetrator, described as approximately 30 years old, about 1.75 meters tall, of slim build, with short blonde hair, was last seen wearing a natural-colored short pants and a Bordeaux-colored T-shirt. Witnesses who have observed suspicious persons or have any information about the crime are asked to contact the Hannover Criminal Duty Office.
The police are warning the public not to trust scammers and hand over their savings. They provide tips to protect against scammers on their official website: Police Directorate Hannover. For more information, visit Police Consultation Hannover.
