In an alarming incident that took place on Tuesday (02.09.) in Düsseldorf, a one-year-old foster son was rescued from a Dacia parked in a stuffy, very warm parking garage at Martin-Luther-Platz.

The drama unfolded when a parking garage employee noticed a crying one-year-old boy in the car around 12:00 PM. The employee immediately alerted the police about the dangerous situation.

Initial investigations revealed that the foster mother, aged 36, had left her sleeping child in the car while she ran errands. The foster mother explained that she had only briefly left the child, but it took about three hours for her to appear at her vehicle.

The police initially tried to locate the vehicle owner or a guardian, but an announcement in the adjacent Schadow Arkaden was unsuccessful. The police were forced to take drastic measures and used a hammer to break the car window to rescue the one-year-old boy.

Investigations are now underway against the 36-year-old foster mother for neglecting her duty of care. A criminal complaint was filed against her, and the incident has sparked a heated debate about the responsibilities of foster parents.

Fortunately, the one-year-old boy is doing well given the circumstances. After examinations at the hospital, doctors gave the all-clear for the child. The youth welfare office and the child protection service of the city of Düsseldorf were informed and have taken over further care of the child.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of responsible parenting and the potential consequences of negligence. The police and the public are urging everyone to be vigilant and to report any similar incidents to the authorities.
