Shure Accomplishes Sustainable Packaging Targets in the Year 2023
Shure, a leading manufacturer of audio equipment, is making significant strides in promoting sustainability and reducing its environmental footprint. By 2027, more than 100 million AA batteries are expected to be saved from landfills, thanks to Shure's rechargeable batteries.
One of the key factors contributing to this reduction is the engineering of Shure's products to help with overall power consumption. These products use less energy in "down" modes, conserving power when not in use.
Shure's commitment to sustainability extends beyond its products. Two years ago, the company established goals to increase the use of recyclable and/or renewable packaging for new products. With over 1,500 different packaging pieces for a variety of products, converting to sustainable packaging is a significant undertaking.
The nature of these regulations promotes sustainable electronics and electronics manufacturing. Shure regularly reviews international regulations to ensure environmental compliance with regulations like RoHS, REACH, and WEEE. The company's factories, which belong to the Responsible Business Alliance (RBA), are committed to sustainability and compliance with these guidelines.
Shure manufacturing plants feature recycling programs for cardboard boxes and wooden pallets, keeping tons of cardboard waste and nearly 5,000 wooden pallets out of landfills. The company's factories also work with suppliers who take action on sustainability, including suppliers who use solar power and recycled water in their operations.
Chris Schyvinck, President and CEO at Shure, stated that being environmentally responsible is an important part of the company's identity. Shure's efforts have already yielded impressive results. In the past five years, the company estimates it has eliminated nearly 30 million AA batteries from landfills.
Key sustainable packaging initiatives include replacing thermoform trays with more sustainable, recyclable alternatives, reducing overall plastic materials, reducing literature, and right-sizing packaging. Shure is a member of the Sustainable Packaging Coalition, further demonstrating its commitment to environmental responsibility.
Shure's focus on sustainability extends to its technology as well. Remote monitoring of power use is possible with Shure's Wireless Workbench Software, allowing for more efficient use of energy. One Broadway show alone saved over 21,000 AA batteries from landfills by using Shure's rechargeable system.
Shure has already achieved its goal to convert to 75% recyclable and/or renewable packaging by 2023 and is on track to grow to 90% by 2025 and 100% by 2030 for new packaging. This commitment to sustainability not only benefits the environment but also positions Shure as a leader in responsible business practices.
