Siemens Mobility's subsidiary, Smart Train Lease GmbH, has secured an order from Trans Regio Deutsche Regionalbahn GmbH for the short-term provision of three modern Mireo-Smart trains and an eight-year maintenance contract. This marks the first expansion of Trans Regio's offer in Rhineland-Palatinate in many years.

The new RB 32 line, scheduled to begin operation on December 14, 2025, will provide better connectivity to the Middle Rhine Valley and relieve a heavily frequented route. The vehicles will run from Ahrbrück via Remagen to Koblenz and onwards to Boppard, providing an additional direct connection to the Middle Rhine axis for the Ahr Valley.

The first vehicle delivery is set to take place on October 1, 2022, six weeks after the contract signing. The Mireo Smart trains for the new RB 32 line have a top speed of 160 km/h and 214 seats, including 12 in a separate first class. They also offer space for up to 21 bicycles and are equipped with onboard internet (Wi-Fi) and numerous power outlets and USB charging ports at the seats.

The new RB 32 line will operate electrically and without transfers, integrating seamlessly into the existing workshop infrastructure of Trans Regio in Koblenz, where extensive experience with Mireo trains already exists. Siemens Mobility ensures timely delivery of spare parts based on a service contract over an eight-year period and supports with expert manufacturer support.

As part of the expansion of the network and increased passenger volume, the annual mileage performance of the existing service contract for Mireo and Desiro Mainline trains has also been increased. The new SPNV concept for the Ahr Valley from December 2025 will not only electrify the offer but also expand it.

Trans Regio is also looking to recruit around 20 locomotive drivers for the new services on the RB 32 line. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply for the Remagen location.

This new order marks the first expansion of an existing Mireo fleet via the Smart Train Lease model. The vehicles are fully connected to Railigent X, enabling condition-based maintenance through digital fleet monitoring, ensuring efficient and reliable service for passengers.
