Sinclair Leverages Sony Ci Media Cloud's Broad Array of Tools
Sony's Ci Media Cloud, a versatile tool designed to solve a multitude of problems, has become an integral part of Sinclair Broadcast Group's operational workflow. With over 5,000 users relying on it daily, Ci makes up more than 80% of the staff's daily operations.
Ci offers a range of features, including the ability to receive and send files, send file requests and links, view proxies, add or change metadata, and search. Its intuitive user interface requires little training and provides a solid set of fundamental features.
One of the key aspects of Ci's design is the independence of media and metadata, such as media asset management. This design philosophy ensures that these elements are accessible across various applications.
Sony Ci's cloud-native architecture is another significant feature, enabling it to function effectively in a wide range of operational contexts across Sinclair's distributed infrastructure. The cloud-native design proved particularly valuable during disaster recovery scenarios, as users across Sinclair were able to apply Ci in unexpected ways due to its intuitive interface and cloud-native architecture.
Moreover, many of Ci's features are also available via API, allowing for automation of search, modification, and movement of files through integration with other systems. This automation is crucial for tasks such as the Cloud Media Pipeline (CMP), which processes an average of 30,000 files per week, with Sony Ci being an integral component.
The API event reporting in Ci is granular, allowing for the building of dashboards in business reporting tools that track and assign cost to specific events and user actions. Furthermore, Ci provides a window into Sinclair's shared storage, allowing users and automation to search and view media and adjust metadata.
Ci's actions can control or trigger additional workflows by other systems, making it a central component in Sinclair's operational workflow. For instance, it supports various tasks across multiple departments, from enabling stringer contributions for high school football to receiving commercial spots and syndicated programming.
Sony Ci sits on top of storage controlled by Sinclair, integrated within their architecture. More information about Ci can be found at cimediacloud.com.
Sinclair subscribes to the MovieLabs 2030 vision, where services come to the media, rather than the other way around. This vision aligns with Ci's design philosophy, which emphasises flexibility and ease of use.
Despite the widespread use of Ci at Sinclair, there are no publicly available details naming the personnel who developed and implemented the use of Sony Ci at Sinclair Broadcast Group.
