In a recent incident, a Toy Poodle bitch was discovered hidden in a Sprinter van with Moldovan registration plates, leading to the initiation of a criminal investigation for smuggling an animal in violation of German law.

The vehicle was stopped by customs patrol on A 81 at Stuttgart interchange on Saturday evening. The puppy, which was eight weeks old at the time, was found between the driver's and passenger's seats, hidden under a blanket. The young puppy was severely dehydrated and shaking.

According to Marcel Schroeder, the press spokesman for the Main Customs Office Heilbronn, the puppy was brought into the European Union and Germany without a rabies vaccination, health certificate, and was far too young. The Main Customs Office Heilbronn is the responsible authority for this incident.

The driver initially claimed the puppy was a gift for his cousin, but later waived their right to reclaim the dog after the ordered quarantine in November. The intended recipient of the dog also waived their right to claim the puppy.

Subsequent investigation revealed potential illegal puppy trafficking, with the puppy reportedly to be sold for €2,000. The local veterinary office was called in and ordered the puppy to be seized. The puppy will be made available for adoption after the necessary quarantine.

At present, the search results do not provide information about the specific perpetrator who brought the dog into Heilbronn. However, a criminal investigation has been initiated against the driver on the spot for smuggling an animal in violation of § 13 (1) of the Animal Health Act.

The puppy was taken to the Boeblingen district animal shelter by the animal rescue service in Schönbuch. The puppy is currently receiving care and will be ready for adoption once the quarantine period is over.
