Smuggling of Puppies into the Nation Prohibited by Law

In a recent incident, a Toy Poodle bitch was discovered hidden in a van with Moldovan registration plates on the A 81 at the Stuttgart interchange. The vehicle was pulled over by a customs patrol from the Main Customs Office Heilbronn.

The puppy, just eight weeks old, was found dehydrated and shaking between the driver's and passenger's seats, hidden under a blanket. The poor health of the young animal was evident, raising concerns about its welfare.

According to Marcel Schroder, the press spokesman for the Main Customs Office Heilbronn, the puppy was brought into the European Union and Germany without a rabies vaccination, health certificate, and much too young. The responsible veterinary office was immediately called in, and the puppy was seized.

The driver initially claimed that the puppy was a gift for his cousin. However, a subsequent phone call raised suspicions of potential illegal puppy trafficking. The puppy was reportedly to be sold for 2,000 euros.

A criminal investigation was initiated against the driver for smuggling an animal in violation of § 13 (1) of the Animal Health Act. The name of the suspect has not been disclosed.

The Main Customs Office Heilbronn is the responsible authority for this case. For more information, you can contact the press department via telephone: 07131-8970-1050, mobile: 0175 / 26 90 512, fax: 07131/8970-1999, email: [email protected], website: www.zoll.de.

The animal rescue service Schönbuch took the young animal to the Boeblingen district animal shelter. The quarantine for the puppy will be completed in November. After the necessary quarantine, the puppy will be made available for adoption.

The source of this information is the Main Customs Office Heilbronn, as transmitted via news aktuell. The driver and the recipient of the dog waived their right to reclaim the dog.
