The city of Leipzig is taking significant strides in its commitment to renewable energy. By the end of this year, an additional 23 schools, a sports hall, a kindergarten, and a fire station are expected to receive solar systems. This expansion includes installations in schools, sports facilities, kindergartens, and fire stations, as part of the city's aim to install solar systems on up to 30 roofs each year.

The city's dedication to solar energy is evident in the recent commissioning of a photovoltaic system on the roof of the Anton-Philipp-Reclam School. Spanning 200 square meters, this system has the capacity to generate up to 42 kilowatts of power. If functioning optimally, it could supply the entire school with electricity. Another photovoltaic system is planned for the Anton-Philipp-Reclam School in the coming months.

Leipzig is currently generating approximately 1,000 megawatt-hours of electricity annually through solar modules. With the planned installations, the city expects to double the number of solar systems installed by next year, amounting to a total of 46 systems.

In a project week starting on September 1, 2025, the Volksschule Schwabgut in Bern will also be equipped with a photovoltaic system. During this week, students will participate in the installation on the schoolhouse roofs, furthering the city's goal of promoting renewable energy education.

The number of roofs equipped with solar systems in Leipzig is expected to increase annually, reflecting the city's commitment to solar energy and its vision for a greener future.
