Sonos, the premium audio company known for its high-quality speakers, is making a bold move into the video streaming device market. The company is planning to launch a high-end streaming box, codenamed "Pinewood," in mid-2025.

This is Sonos's first serious attempt to expand beyond audio and into the video streaming space. The move comes as the competition in both the smart speaker and streaming markets grows fiercer, with tech giants like Apple and Google dominating the scene. Industry analyst Mark Reynolds states that it is risky but necessary for Sonos to enter the streaming device market to compete against these giants.
