Spanish company Floatech succeeds in securing €1 million to strengthen its silicon anode battery technology.
Floatech Secures €1 Million in Funding for Scaling Battery Technology
Floatech, a Spanish startup based in Getafe, has announced that it has secured €1 million in funding to further develop and scale its silicon anode battery technology, Si⋮Coil. The funding round was backed by a consortium of investors including BMW i Ventures, bp ventures, BASF Venture Capital, Grow Venture Partners, Big Sur Ventures, Suma Capital, CDTI Innvierte, and BStartup Banco Sabadell.
The focus of the funding will be on scaling production processes, increasing battery output, and strengthening market readiness. Floatech's CEO, Fernando Celaya, stated that the funding round gives them the necessary impetus to bring their technology to market in industrial conditions.
Floatech specializes in developing silicon anodes for lithium-ion batteries. Unlike traditional methods, Floatech's core technology excludes solvents and polymers in the production process, making it more environmentally friendly and cost-effective. The company aims to improve battery charging time, range, and environmental footprint.
The funding will also support efforts to validate the technology in various industrial settings. Floatech's approach targets multiple sectors, including electric transport, personal electronics, and light aviation. The company has successfully concluded its role in the E-BOOST project, a European Union-funded initiative focused on advancing sustainable mobility. Key outcomes of the E-BOOST project include a conceptual design for silane production, validation of silane use in nano-silicon anodes, and a strategic framework for compliant sourcing.
Manufacturing at scale is enabled by Floatech's method, which also lowers emissions and aligns with cost reduction goals. The company is a spin-off of the IMDEA Materials Institute. Floatech operates a 1 MWh demonstration facility and plans to use the capital to expand the reach of its Si⋮Coil battery platform.
With this funding, Floatech is one step closer to bringing its innovative technology to market, contributing to the advancement of sustainable mobility and the electric revolution.
