Span's cycling team aims for victory in the 2025 Vuelta after a decade of drought in Spanish wins

The 2025 edition of the Vuelta a España promises to be an exciting event, with several notable riders and teams confirmed to participate.

Enric Mas, who had been a strong contender in previous years, will unfortunately be unable to participate due to an injury. However, his absence leaves room for other riders to shine.

Among the teams representing Spain are Arkea, with Raúl García Pierna and Cristián Rodríguez, and Burgos-Burpellet, whose roster includes Mario Aparicio, Daniel Cavia, Hugo de la Calle, José Luis Faura, Sinuhé Fernández, and Carlos García Pierna. Caja Rural will also be present, with Abel Balderstone, Fernando Barceló, Joan Bou, Jaume Guardeño, and Joel Nicolau forming their team.

UAE Emirates, a team with a strong Spanish contingent, will be led by Juan Ayuso and Marc Soler. Ayuso, one of the Spanish favourites to fight for the general classification, is expected to make a significant impact. His teammate Soler, while not as prominent, is also a rider to watch.

INEOS and Soudal Quick Step are two other teams that have confirmed their participation. INEOS's team for the Vuelta a España includes Oscar Rodriguez and Jonathan Castroviejo, while Soudal Quick Step will field Mikel Landa and Rodriguez. Landa, who is returning to the Vuelta a España after an injury in the Giro d'Italia, is expected to be a strong contender.

Cofidis will be represented by Jesús Herrada and Sergio Samitier. Herrada, a regular stage hunter in the Vuelta a España, is likely to target individual stage victories. Lidl Trek, on the other hand, will have Carlos Verona as their sole representative. Verona, who secured a stage win in the 2022 Giro and seeks to repeat it in the 2025 Vuelta a España, is another rider to watch.

The 2025 Vuelta a España will feature 15 of 21 stages categorized as medium or high mountains, with the Bola del Mundo as the grand finale. This rugged terrain is sure to test the mettle of all riders.

Markel Beloki will represent EF Education in the race. Tadej Pogacar, who had been a strong contender in previous editions, will not be participating this year.

Jonathan Castroviejo, a seven-time Spanish time trial champion, has already circled stage 18 on his calendar for the 2025 Vuelta a España. With its challenging terrain, it promises to be an exciting stage for the time trial specialists.

In addition to the teams mentioned above, Juan Ayuso and Joao Almeida will lead the UAE team, and Cristián Rodríguez will represent Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team. Spanish riders Juan Ayuso and Marc Soler, who were not previously mentioned, will also participate in the race.

Notably absent from this year's race are Euskaltel and Kern Pharma. Despite their absence, the 2025 Vuelta a España is shaping up to be an exciting event, with several strong riders and teams vying for victory.
