Speedy evacuation commands given due to rapid 'pyrite fire' blaze in Jurupa Valley
Breaking News: Pyrite Fire Rages in Riverside County
Evacuation orders have been issued for several areas in Riverside County, including Jurupa Valley, following the eruption of the Pyrite Fire on September 5, 2025. The fire, which started around 5:20 p.m. at the intersection of Pyrite Street and Granite Hills Drive, has prompted immediate action from local authorities and emergency services.
The Riverside County Fire Department, CAL FIRE (California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection), and local emergency services are working tirelessly to contain the blaze. As of the current update, 30 staff members, 40 engines, 2 helicopters, and air tankers are fighting the fire from the air, while fire crews are also engaging the fire on the ground.
The initial reports suggest that between 15 and 200 acres of land have been consumed by the fire, with no initial control. Due to the light vegetation cover, the fire grew rapidly, posing a significant threat to the surrounding communities.
In response to the spreading fire, evacuation orders have been issued for areas JUR0031 and JUR0017. These orders have been expanded to include neighboring areas JUR0018 and JUR0036, which encompass the communities of Jurupa Hills and Sunnyslope. Authorities in Fontana have assured that people are not in immediate danger, but have closed Sierra Avenue for firefighter access.
Despite the evacuations, no injuries have been reported as of the current update. However, the fire is moving towards the San Bernardino County border, and it is visible in Fontana.
In an effort to ensure the safety of pets, an animal shelter has been located at 6851 Van Buren Boulevard. Law enforcement is urging people to remain vigilant and to rely on official sources of information.
The cause of the Jurupa Valley fire is still under investigation. For those affected by the evacuations, Jurupa Valley High School (10552 Belle Grave Ave) has been established as an emergency shelter.
