Spider-Noir's Potential Black-and-White Debut Unveiled

In a bold move, Marvel's latest show, Spider-Noir, is set to premiere on MGM+ with a unique twist – a stylized black-and-white look that harks back to the noir vibe that defines the hero.

Actor Lukas Haas, who has been involved in the production, mentioned that during shooting, monitors were in monochrome to make it "very, very, very authentic." This decision seems to be part of an ongoing trend of Marvel shows using visual flair, following in the footsteps of recent releases like Godzilla Minus Color and Hundreds of Beavers.

The black-and-white aesthetic was last seen in Marvel's Werewolf by Night, and MGM+ will broadcast both color and black-and-white versions of Spider-Noir. This could mean that the show could have two releases, one in color and the other in black-and-white, offering viewers a choice.

This venture into visual experimentation is a welcome change, especially since Spider-Noir exists in its own universe and has a little more freedom. It's a good time for Marvel to try something different, as the upcoming show is part of a lineup that includes new releases from Marvel, Star Wars, Star Trek, DC Universe, and Doctor Who.

The Spider-Noir show's release on MGM+ marks a new chapter for the character, whose previous onscreen appearances have been in black-and-white. The universe of Spider-Noir has kept with this noir aesthetic, and the upcoming colorful, splashy affairs may provide a striking contrast.

The use of visual flair is something that Marvel shows have struggled with in the past, with examples outside of Werewolf by Night highlighting these struggles. However, with the success of shows like Godzilla Minus Color and Hundreds of Beavers, it seems that Marvel is ready to push the boundaries and deliver a visually stunning show.

The Spider-Noir show is scheduled to release on MGM+ on September 13, 2023. Get ready to experience a new take on the Spider-Man universe, as Marvel continues to explore different visual styles.
