Sports team Sporting missed out on acquiring a top Premier League player as their transfer deadline passed by mere seconds
Nottingham Forest's deal to offload Jota Silva to Sporting Lisbon fell through at the eleventh hour on deadline day, leaving the Portuguese club scrambling to complete the signing before the deadline.
The agreement, which included a loan with a £3.9million fee and an obligation to buy Jota for £13.5million at the end of the season, was reached at around 11pm Portuguese time, an hour before the deadline for Sporting to complete the signing.
Forest were only interested in selling Jota Silva, having signed him from Vitoria Guimaraes last summer. The deal to join Sporting Lisbon was agreed upon after several weeks of negotiations. However, the transfer deal collapsed just seconds before the midnight cut-off, preventing Jota's registration in time.
Jota, who has only made a single appearance so far this season, an 11-minute cameo off the bench against Brentford last month, has not been included in Nuno Espirito Santo's matchday squad for Forest's two Premier League matches since the collapse.
The collapse of the deal leaves Jota Silva's future at Nottingham Forest uncertain. With several leagues still having active transfer windows, including Saudi Arabia and Turkey, where Saudi Pro League side Neom SC are reportedly interested in a move for the Portuguese winger, a potential exit for Jota Silva from Nottingham Forest remains possible.
Meanwhile, in other transfer news, Manchester United and Chelsea stars, as well as Christian Eriksen and Michail Antonio, are among players who could still leave this summer. However, these developments are not directly related to Jota Silva's situation.
