Stakeholders urged to focus on community empowerment efforts by NGO
In a recent stakeholders' Interactive Meeting, Dr. Lugard Okonobo, the Director-General of the Nigeria Women Economic Development (NigWED), underscored the importance of sustainable, smart, and integrated agricultural development and nutrition as key strategies to combat hunger and build food sovereignty. The event, which highlighted the Nigeria-Germany Transformation Hub (NGTH) Social Enterprise Projects in Nigeria, was also attended by Alhaji Suleiman Aminu, Chairman of the NGTH.
Okonobo's speech also emphasized the need to empower rural communities and promote sustainable livelihoods for farmers and agriculture entrepreneurs. He urged participants to engage more fully and ensure that the relationships translate into real impacts for people.
The highlight of the meeting was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NGTH and the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN). The MoU, signed by Dr. Okonobo and AFAN representatives, aims to foster collaboration and drive innovation in promoting sustainable development in Nigeria. However, the specific other organizations involved in the signing were not detailed in the available search results.
Aminu, in his remarks, said the event offered a platform to build partnerships, share ideas, and explore how social enterprises could drive innovation and promote sustainable development in Nigeria. He encouraged participants to utilize the platform as a launch pad to change the narratives in Nigeria's ecosystem.
Mr. Ambrose Okojie, President of NGTH, stated that the event would renew shared resolve to work together across sectors, borders, and disciplines. He emphasized that gender and social inclusion, an SDG goal, cannot be achieved without the participation of women, youths, persons with disabilities, and marginalized communities.
Intercultural exchange through arts and sports was identified as a powerful tool for building mutual understanding, healing divisions, and promoting peace. Okonobo also said that Safe and Legal Migration Pathways should be a choice, not a necessity borne out of desperation.
The Nigeria-Germany Transformation Hub, a dynamic social enterprise platform in Nigeria, operates as a beacon of what is possible when innovation, bilateral partnership, and community-centred development intersect. The Nigeria Women Economic Development (NigWED), an NGO, has called for practical pathways to empower people, strengthen communities, and deepen international cooperation.
Stakeholders representing government, civil society, private sector, diaspora groups, and international partners have a responsibility to build a more inclusive, sustainable, and equitable future for all. The meeting served as a significant step towards achieving these goals.
