Station environment in South-West enhanced
The city of Nordhorn is witnessing an exciting development as construction on the new "Loading Street" has commenced in the station area. This one-way street, approximately 450 meters long, will connect Denekamper Street and Paul Street, and is scheduled to be completed by the end of October this year.
The Bentheimer Railway (BE) is the client for the construction project, with the city of Nordhorn bearing the costs. The decision to name the street "Loading Street" was made by the Nordhorn Council.
The new street will feature a footpath, green spaces, parking spaces for cars, and around 150 bicycle parking spaces. This development is part of the further upgrading of the Nordhorn station area, with Joachim Berends, board member of BE, expressing confidence that the measure will further enhance the station area.
In addition to the new street, a new pedestrian and bicycle crossing is planned at the eastern end of the station area for the medium term. The construction of a new pedestrian and bicycle crossing is intended to replace the one on Bernhard-Niehues Street, which is currently closed for construction work and will be completely dismantled in the future.
Milena Schauer, Nordhorn's chief building officer, sees the construction of Loading Street as another milestone in the urban planning framework for the station area. The County of Bentheim has made the areas between Loading Street and the Vocational Training Schools available for revision and integration into the overall concept of the station area.
Approximately 1.5 million euros will be invested in the construction project of Loading Street. The city of Nordhorn expects financial support from the state and federal governments amounting to about 70% for the redevelopment of the station area.
Notably, the street's design allows for rainwater to infiltrate directly on site, reducing the burden on the sewer system. This eco-friendly approach is a testament to the city's commitment to sustainable urban development.
The construction of the new street is being built southwest of the platform in the Nordhorn station area. As the project progresses, the city of Nordhorn and the Bentheimer Railway look forward to enhancing the station area, making it more pedestrian and cyclist-friendly, and contributing to the overall growth and development of the city.
